Caitlin Clark condemns WNBA harassment and rules out Sunday return
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has strongly condemned the recent wave of harassment directed at WNBA players and confirmed she will miss Sunday’s match against the Las Vegas Aces with a back injury.
The two-time All-Star broke her silence on Friday to address the escalating negative attention surrounding the league.
“The harassment, the hate. None of that is okay,” Clark stated.
The 22-year-old emphasised that a player’s character should never be questioned and expressed a firm desire for a safer, more respectful environment for all athletes.
Toxicity and unacceptable threats
The comments follow a disturbing trend of abuse aimed at competitors and coaching staff across the division.
Phoenix Mercury veteran Alyssa Thomas recently revealed she had received racial slurs and death threats after being suspended for striking the Indiana rookie during a fiery encounter on June 22.
Fever head coach Stephanie White described the rising levels of racism and homophobia in the sport as absolutely unacceptable.
“I get it, you have to talk about it, but to continue to beat down for the narrative to be taken to other places is really just not acceptable,” Clark said regarding the relentless media focus on physical incidents.
League response and injury update
In response to the growing vitriol, WNBA officials have introduced artificial intelligence software to rapidly identify and combat online threats.
The Women’s National Basketball Players Association also issued a powerful letter reminding fans that while spirited debate is welcome, harassment remains strictly prohibited.
Meanwhile, the former Iowa standout continues to rehabilitate the back issue sustained during that physical victory over the Mercury.
She will remain on the sidelines when Indiana face the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces this weekend.
However, the franchise’s marquee signing was able to participate in recent practice sessions and remains optimistic about making a swift return to the court.
