LeBron James will not rush his NBA free agency decision, insists agent Rich Paul
LeBron James will not be rushed into deciding his next NBA team ahead of his record-setting 24th season, according to his agent Rich Paul.
It has been nearly three weeks since the 41-year-old informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he would not return for the 2026-27 campaign.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat are believed to be the frontrunners for the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, while the Golden State Warriors maintain their interest.
No need for further pitches
Speaking on the “Game Over” podcast, Paul clarified that interested franchises do not need to make further presentations to sway the four-time NBA champion.
“We’re not going to be rushed,” Paul stated. “It’s his choice to make and when he makes the choice, he’ll make it.”
The prominent sports agent revealed that several executives had recently reached out to ask if they should be doing more to secure the superstar’s signature.
“My answer is, ‘No. We don’t need you to go above and beyond about anything. We understand it. It’s clear. All the messages have been sent,'” he added.
Schedule delays and dismissing ‘The Decision’
The extended wait has caused slight logistical issues for the league, with NBA commissioner Adam Silver publicly expressing a desire for a resolution so the upcoming schedule can be finalised.
Paul confirmed he had spoken privately with Silver regarding the matter, reiterating that the veteran forward simply cannot be hurried.
He also firmly rejected any comparisons to the infamous 2010 televised special, “The Decision”, when the forward famously announced his initial departure from Cleveland to South Beach.
“I think it’s important for people to understand: we’re not making this about attention and a spectacle,” Paul said.
While the basketball world waits, the veteran remains focused on making a calculated business decision rather than deliberately generating headlines.
