Atlanta Falcons agree record $75m extension with Bijan Robinson

Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson has become the highest-paid player at his position in NFL history after agreeing a three-year contract extension worth up to $75m.

The lucrative new deal includes a record-breaking $51m in guaranteed money for the two-time Pro Bowler.

Robinson had been holding in at the start of training camp while waiting for a resolution to his unsettled contractual situation.

Barkley benchmark surpassed

This landmark agreement comfortably eclipses the previous benchmark established by Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley.

Barkley previously held the title of the league’s top earner in the backfield with an annual average salary of $20.6m.

By securing an average of $25m per year, the Falcons playmaker has completely reset the financial landscape for the position.

Attention turns to Gibbs

Focus within the league will now immediately shift to the Detroit Lions and their ongoing negotiations with Jahmyr Gibbs.

The Lions standout has also opted to hold in at his respective training camp amid parallel contract discussions.

Industry expectations suggest Gibbs could ultimately secure a deal that equals or even surpasses the historic figures achieved by his Atlanta counterpart.
