Aaron Donald has completed a second workout with the Los Angeles Rams at their Woodland Hills facility as the former defensive tackle weighs up a return from retirement.

The 33-year-old’s latest evaluation was officially listed on the NFL’s transaction report on Sunday.

It marks his second physical assessment with the franchise during their current training camp.

Head coach Sean McVay has insisted that any final decision will be made entirely on the player’s own timeline.

McVay preaches patience over return

Speaking after a preseason fixture in Kansas City, the Rams boss refused to set a strict deadline for the potential comeback.

“What I don’t want is to sit here and do is put a timeline on it, then something comes up where I have to push it back,” McVay stated.
“So, if he puts himself in a position where he says yes or no, I think he has earned the right to have clarity on that.”

The Los Angeles head coach acknowledged that the organisation is not quite at a resolution point but remains optimistic about a swift conclusion.

“I am hopeful that it will be sooner rather than later, but I also want to respect when he does feel that clarity will come.”

Garrett trade sparks comeback thoughts

The former All-Pro previously showcased his fitness for the team in early August during a session at Loyola Marymount University.

That initial evaluation involved key medical and coaching personnel, with McVay subsequently describing the 10-year veteran as looking outstanding.

The future Hall of Famer announced his departure from the sport in March 2024 after spending his entire professional career in Southern California.

However, the possibility of a dramatic u-turn was ignited in early June when the Rams traded for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

The tantalising prospect of pairing two historically dominant pass rushers together has undoubtedly provided an enticing scenario for the Los Angeles hierarchy.
