Carolina Hurricanes’ Seth Jarvis to miss 4-6 months following shoulder surgery
Carolina Hurricanes top goalscorer Seth Jarvis will miss the start of their Stanley Cup title defence after undergoing shoulder surgery that will sideline him for up to six months.
General manager Eric Tulsky confirmed the 24-year-old required a procedure on a previously injured shoulder following their championship celebrations.
“He will be out probably 4-6 months,” Tulsky announced on Friday night.
Impact on Stanley Cup defence
The prolific winger usually operates alongside first-line centre Sebastian Aho and was instrumental during the regular season.
He registered a team-high 32 goals in 71 games, averaging an impressive 0.93 points per appearance.
However, the forward’s output notably dipped during the gruelling post-season campaign.
He managed just four goals and seven assists across 19 playoff fixtures, culminating in a diminished role during the Stanley Cup Final against Vegas.
Head coach Rod Brind’Amour eventually demoted the struggling skater to the third line before he went under the knife.
Double injury blow creates opening
Carolina’s attacking depth has been further compromised by the loss of forward Eric Robinson.
The versatile attacker is expected to miss up to eight weeks after undergoing a knee procedure.
These significant absences will create an immediate pathway for younger talent to feature in the starting line-up.
Highly rated prospect Bradly Nadeau has been specifically identified as a potential beneficiary.
“He could get some runway,” Tulsky suggested, referencing the youngster who contributed three goals in 12 appearances last season.
