MotoGP champion Marc Marquez signs new contract with Ducati until 2028
Reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has signed a new contract with Ducati, extending his stay with the Italian manufacturer until 2028.
The 33-year-old Spaniard joined the team in 2024 and subsequently secured his seventh premier class title last year.
That stunning triumph marked his first world championship victory since 2019.
Chasing further championship glory
Despite recently battling significant physical setbacks, the veteran rider remains determined to add to his extensive trophy cabinet.
“I continue to compete because I love this sport and I want to achieve even more ambitious goals,” said Marquez.
“I’m convinced this is the right place to do it.”
He expressed immense gratitude toward the Italian marque for providing the optimal environment to realise his future ambitions.
“I’m super happy with this new agreement with the Ducati Lenovo Team and to continue being part of this family,” he added.
“With this renewal, they have once again reaffirmed this commitment, respecting my times and giving me the peace of mind I needed to make the right decision.”
Overcoming early season injuries
The experienced racer currently heads into this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix trailing championship leader Marco Bezzecchi by 40 points.
His title defence was initially hampered by a challenging start to the campaign, which necessitated both shoulder and foot surgery.
However, the legendary rider has showcased a remarkable return to competitive form in recent weeks.
He secured his landmark 100th career victory across all classes with a commanding performance at the Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this month.
The seven-time world champion then immediately followed that historic milestone with another impressive triumph at Sunday’s Czech Grand Prix.
