Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury advance talks for historic two-fight deal
Promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that negotiations for a long-awaited two-fight deal between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are at an advanced stage, pending a successful July comeback for the Watford-born boxer.
The British heavyweights have circled each other for years, but an official agreement is finally edging closer to reality.
Matchroom Boxing chief Hearn revealed the pair are lining up back-to-back bouts that will be broadcast globally across DAZN and Netflix.
Road to recovery
The 34-year-old former Olympian is scheduled to make his highly anticipated return to the ring this July against a yet-to-be-named opponent.
His career was temporarily halted following a serious car accident just days after securing a devastating knockout victory over Jake Paul last December.
During his extensive rehabilitation period, the two-time unified world champion has been training alongside former rival Oleksandr Usyk.
Ringside challenge
Speculation regarding the mega-fight intensified recently when the British star sat ringside at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch his domestic rival comfortably defeat Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Following that dominant one-sided performance over the Russian heavyweight, the ‘Gypsy King’ immediately called out his fellow Briton from the centre of the ring.
While the former unified champion initially refused to commit to the immediate challenge, his promoter’s latest update suggests the showdown is virtually secured.
Comeback stepping stone
Hearn admitted that the upcoming July opponent might not excite critics, but he emphasised the necessity of a cautious return after such a traumatic period.
“We’re looking at a few guys, I’m not going to mention their names but they’re all dangerous,” Hearn told iFL TV.
“If AJ’s not physically or mentally ready, it will be a very dangerous fight but it’s also a comeback fight after some quite severe injuries and a very traumatic time in his life.”
“We only have a fight like that if we have signed to fight Tyson Fury.”
The final location for this monumental all-British showdown remains undecided, with Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh expected to dictate where the event will ultimately land.
