Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi targets historic Premier League title
Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi hopes to see London “dressed in red” as his side closes in on their first Premier League title in 22 years and a maiden Champions League crown.
The Gunners are just three games away from completing an unprecedented double that would cement this squad’s place in the club’s history books.
Mikel Arteta’s side travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Monday night, knowing a vital victory will maintain their fierce momentum.
Focus remains on the task at hand
The Spain international admits he has been dreaming about the impending celebrations but insists the squad remains fully focused on securing the necessary results.
“We are looking forward to it, because in the end it has been a very long season and we see that we are close,” Zubimendi said.
“If we can do it then it is going to be an important moment for the fans.”
“Hopefully, London will be dressed in red and I think that because of everything I’ve experienced this year, I want to think it’s going to be a unique day.”
Navigating a season-defining schedule
Arsenal have not lifted the English top-flight trophy for over two decades, making this season’s final push incredibly poignant for a success-starved fanbase.
If the North London outfit defeat an already-relegated Burnley side, they could be officially crowned champions as early as Tuesday should title rivals Manchester City drop points against Bournemouth.
Following their final domestic fixture against Crystal Palace, the midfield orchestrator and his teammates will travel to Budapest for a colossal European showdown.
They are set to face French champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on 30 May, presenting an opportunity to claim European football’s ultimate prize.
Relying only on themselves
“It would be incredible,” the 25-year-old explained when discussing the prospect of securing both trophies.
“It’s true that we haven’t felt not winning the league as much as the fans and the other players who have felt it over the years with that desire to win this title.”
Despite the tantalising prospect of Manchester City faltering, the dressing room mentality remains strictly geared towards controlling their own destiny.
“We are very clear that to win everything we have to do our job,” he added.
“We depend on ourselves, so I don’t think we care what the others do, we are focused on ourselves.”
