Arsenal prepare fresh Ezri Konsa bid as Gabriel Martinelli considers exit
Arsenal are preparing a renewed bid for Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa this summer as winger Gabriel Martinelli weighs up a potential departure from the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta’s side have already enjoyed a prolific summer transfer window.
The Premier League champions recently secured Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes in a landmark £75m deal.
However, the north London club’s spending shows no signs of slowing down ahead of the new season.
Konsa targeted to cover Saliba absence
Aston Villa are bracing for a fresh approach for Konsa after rejecting an initial offer.
The Midlands club currently value the 28-year-old at approximately £60m.
Arteta is desperate for defensive reinforcements following a long-term injury to William Saliba.
Konsa’s versatility makes him an attractive proposition, with the defender capable of operating at both centre-back and right-back.
Villa are under no immediate financial pressure to sell, having recently generated funds through the departure of Morgan Rogers.
Martinelli weighs up European options
Meanwhile, Martinelli could be heading for the exit door before the window closes.
The Brazilian’s playing time is under threat as Arsenal reportedly pursue his international team-mate Vinicius Junior.
With just one year remaining on his current contract, the 25-year-old has attracted attention from Roma, Juventus and Fenerbahce.
Despite the mounting interest, the lightning-fast forward will not rush into a decision regarding his next destination.
However, a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League has been categorically ruled out.
Al-Nassr had shown considerable interest in the player, but he is currently unwilling to relocate to the Middle East.
Squad depth building for Community Shield
The Gunners have moved decisively to build a formidable squad ahead of their Community Shield clash with Manchester City on 16 August.
Alongside Guimaraes, the club’s hierarchy have negotiated a £34.5m deal for defender Piero Hincapie.
Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has also arrived on a free transfer to provide essential backup.
Furthermore, Christos Tzolis was signed for £34m as a direct replacement for Leandro Trossard.
