Arsenal rule out Manchester United transfer for Myles Lewis-Skelly

Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick has firmly dismissed speculation linking teenage midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly with a £45m transfer to Manchester United.

Doubts had recently surfaced over the 19-year-old’s long-term future at Emirates Stadium.

Intermediaries reportedly offered both the Red Devils and Chelsea the opportunity to sign the highly rated academy product.

However, Garlick has now moved decisively to quash any suggestions of an impending departure for the versatile youngster.

Rooney urges United to target ‘no-brainer’ signing

The resolute stance from north London comes after former Old Trafford captain Wayne Rooney publicly encouraged his old employers to pursue a deal.

Speaking on a podcast, the ex-England striker highlighted the teenager’s ability to cover multiple positions.

“If you can get a player in who can play left-back and centre-midfield, that’s an absolute no-brainer,” Rooney stated.

The 38-year-old also pointed to ongoing fitness concerns surrounding current defender Luke Shaw as a primary reason for the 20-time English champions to strengthen their squad.

Speculation had suggested the Gunners might be tempted to cash in on their homegrown prospect to generate pure profit for financial sustainability regulations.

Arsenal stand firm on academy talent

Despite that potential financial incentive, the London club maintain they have zero intention of allowing their rising star to leave.

“Myles has had a fantastic end to last season and he started this season really well,” Garlick told talkSPORT.

“Obviously there may be speculation, I’m not going to go into that from other clubs but we’re very happy with Myles and the position he’s in at the club.”

The England youth international remains firmly integrated into Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans as they challenge for domestic honours.
