Arsenal urged to sign Sandro Tonali to complete world’s best midfield
Premier League champions Arsenal have been urged by their former defender Nacho Monreal to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer to create the best midfield in world football.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with the 26-year-old Italy international following their impressive recent run to the Champions League final.
Newcastle are understood to place a high valuation on their prized asset, which could naturally complicate negotiations for the North London club.
Financial pressures at St James’ Park
The Magpies have already faced mounting pressure to raise funds this summer, leading to Anthony Gordon recently securing a dream move to Barcelona.
This financial reality has created an acceptance on Tyneside that at least one of their remaining marquee stars could depart during the current transfer window.
Fierce competition for places
Mikel Arteta currently relies on an established central trio of Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Martin Zubimendi.
Monreal believes that adding the Italian powerhouse to that existing group would give his former employers an unmatched array of global talent.
If Arsenal sign Tonali, obviously they will have the best midfield in the world.
But they signed Zubimendi last year for a lot of money, so it is a difficult one.
The former Spanish international suggested that accommodating such an influx of premium talent might force the club into making a difficult sale.
To have both Tonali, Zubimendi, and Rice would be a lot, so I can only imagine that they would have to sell either Zubimendi or Declan Rice if they really want Tonali.
Interest in Aston Villa star
Alongside their midfield ambitions, the club’s recruitment team are also actively monitoring Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers.
The highly-rated forward is currently away on World Cup duty with the England national team and is widely expected to leave Villa Park before the new campaign begins.
Morgan Rogers is fantastic as well and he has had a super good season. He has done well for Aston Villa and we are talking about a top player here.
