Barcelona prioritise youth over permanent Marcus Rashford transfer
Marcus Rashford’s hopes of a permanent transfer to Barcelona are in doubt as the Spanish club plan to prioritise their academy talents due to ongoing financial constraints.
The 27-year-old forward is currently spending the season on loan at the Nou Camp from Manchester United.
He possesses a £26m purchase option in his temporary contract, but faces stiff competition for a starting berth.
Former Barcelona star Luis Figo believes the Catalan side will focus on youth development rather than signing the Englishman permanently.
Financial constraints hinder deal
“Whenever he has had opportunities, he has shown the quality he has,” Figo told The Times.
“But as it’s a loan, it’s hard to say what’s going to happen in the future.”
“Barça have very talented young players, who have been given priority and opportunities because of the financial problems that have stopped them signing much.”

The Manchester United loanee has frequently had to settle for a substitute role under head coach Hansi Flick.
He finds himself battling in-form attackers Lamine Yamal and Raphinha for a regular place in the starting line-up.
Alternative targets and United return
If the Spanish giants do invest heavily in a forward to replace the departing Robert Lewandowski, Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez is reportedly their primary target.
Luring the Argentine away from the Spanish capital would likely cost in the region of £100m.
Meanwhile, Flick has remained tight-lipped regarding the prospect of keeping his loan star beyond the current campaign.
“I’m very happy with Marcus. He has shown his quality and he scored an important goal,” the German manager stated.
“I can’t say anything about his future, we have to focus on the matches until the end of the season.”

A return to Old Trafford appears equally uncertain following a reported clash of attitudes with United manager Ruben Amorim that initially led to his departure.
