Barcelona reject permanent Marcus Rashford deal as forward returns to Man Utd
Marcus Rashford has returned to Manchester United after Barcelona opted against activating a £26m clause to sign the England forward permanently following his season-long loan.
The Catalan club have decided not to pursue a full transfer for the attacker, who is currently valued at £40m by his parent club.
Despite the financial decision, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has spoken highly of the returning winger and admitted his squad will feel his absence.
Flick praises departing forward
The German coach confirmed that he thoroughly enjoyed working with the Manchester United academy graduate during their time together in Spain.
“What I can say about Marcus is I appreciate a lot to work with him,”
Flick explained to reporters when discussing the transfer decision.
“I think our situation is not easy for that, but I appreciate a lot working with him as he’s a fantastic player and fantastic person. I think also the team miss him and I will miss him, but that’s life.”
An uncertain future at Old Trafford
The Spanish giants instead chose to invest their transfer budget in another English talent, securing Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon in a £75m deal.
No official approaches have yet been made for Rashford, leaving his immediate club future in limbo ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The versatile attacker enjoyed a highly productive spell in La Liga, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists across 49 appearances in all competitions.
Prior to his successful stint in Catalonia, the forward also spent six months on loan at Aston Villa.
He remains under contract at Old Trafford for another two years and has been granted extended leave following his international commitments.

The forward recently took to social media to express his heartfelt gratitude to the Spanish club and their loyal supporters.
