Barcelona sign Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi in Flick reunion
Barcelona have completed the signing of winger Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, reuniting the 24-year-old with head coach Hansi Flick.
The Germany international arrives at Camp Nou seeking to fulfil the vast potential he showed during his time in the Bundesliga.
His move to Catalonia sees him link up once again with Flick, who handed the forward his senior international debut.
A familiar face in the dugout
Flick will be hoping to spark consistency in a player whose raw talent has been evident since his teenage years at Red Bull Salzburg.
The lightning-fast attacker faces stiff competition for a starting berth on the right flank, with Spanish sensation Lamine Yamal currently starring in that role.
However, the new arrival offers a devastating alternative option for the La Liga giants.
Adeyemi famously clocked a top speed of 36.65 kilometres per hour during his debut season in Germany, cementing his status as one of Europe’s fastest players.
Learning his trade
The Munich-born forward amassed almost 100 appearances for Salzburg before his 2022 switch to Dortmund.
He began his senior career even earlier, making his debut for Austrian second-tier side Liefering at just 16 years old.
Speaking during his time at the Westfalenstadion, the winger described that early exposure to men’s football as the perfect education.
“For me, it was the best move that I could do,” he said.
“I adapted to men’s football and this is what is important for a young player.”
Finding consistency in Spain
Despite memorable Champions League goals against Chelsea and Atalanta, the forward has occasionally struggled to evolve beyond the role of an impact substitute.
His final goal in a black and yellow shirt came off the bench against Stuttgart.
The German’s mentality was publicly questioned last December by former international Markus Babbel following a poor reaction to being substituted against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Barcelona will now bank on Flick’s familiarity with the player to help their new acquisition find the consistency required at the very highest level.
