Yael Trepy: Cagliari forward airlifted to hospital

Cagliari forward Yael Trepy is in intensive care after being airlifted to hospital following a near-drowning incident in Sardinia.

The 20-year-old was found in the deep end of a swimming pool at a mansion while enjoying downtime on the Italian island.

It has been widely reported that the French player is unable to swim.

Trepy is currently receiving emergency treatment at the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari.

The Serie A side released an official statement confirming the critical condition of their young prospect.

The incident occurred during a two-day break granted to the squad following Friday’s 1-0 Coppa Italia victory over Arezzo.

The attacker played 53 minutes of that cup tie before being substituted.

He joined the Sardinian outfit in 2022 after beginning his youth career in the Parisian suburbs with US Creteil-Lusitanos.

After progressing through the academy system, the forward made 24 appearances for Cagliari Primavera last term.

He scored 11 goals in Italy’s top youth division before earning a promotion to the senior squad.

His senior league debut came last January as he began to integrate into the first-team setup.

Cagliari, who finished 14th in the Italian top flight last season, are scheduled to begin their new domestic campaign away to Parma on Saturday.

The rest of the first-team squad is expected to return to training on Monday.
