Crystal Palace sign defender Takehiro Tomiyasu after successful trial
Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Japan defender Takehiro Tomiyasu following a successful pre-season trial.
The 27-year-old arrives at Selhurst Park as a free agent after spending the second half of last season in the Eredivisie with Ajax.
Having featured in Japan’s World Cup squad this summer, the versatile full-back becomes the second addition for newly appointed manager Pierre Sage.
The Eagles moved quickly to secure the former Arsenal man in order to reinforce a backline depleted by Maxence Lacroix’s recent departure to Chelsea.
Navigating Strict Financial Rules
Although the exact length of the contract remains undisclosed, the acquisition represents shrewd business for a club navigating stringent European regulations.
Competing in the Europa League this term brings additional obligations under Uefa’s squad cost ratio rules, which cap spending on wages, transfers, and agent fees at 70% of club revenue.
This fiscal reality has forced the South London outfit to explore the free agent market, successfully recruiting Oscar Mingueza following his release from Celta Vigo alongside their newest Japanese recruit.
“Takehiro has experience at the highest level of European and international football,” said Palace chairman Steve Parish.

French coach Sage recently succeeded Olivier Glasner, inheriting a squad that secured the FA Cup, Conference League, and Community Shield over a historic two-year period.
