FA launch security review after intruder enters England World Cup camp
The Football Association has launched a security review after an intruder carrying a wrench entered the England World Cup media centre in Kansas City on Thursday.
Police were called to the facility after a distressed man walked into the press room before any players or coaching staff had arrived for their scheduled media duties.
The individual attempted to flee the premises after hearing nearby unrelated sirens but was safely ushered away and disarmed by authorities.
He later departed peacefully, prompting the English governing body to immediately review their camp security protocols.
Players and coaching staff remain secure
At no point were any members of the squad or coaching staff under threat during the incident.
Only administrative staff and journalists were present inside the media centre at the time of the intrusion.
The facility is located in a community building approximately half a mile from the team’s training pitches at Swope Soccer Village and is protected by security guards.
Focus shifts to Norway quarter-final
The Three Lions are currently preparing for a crucial World Cup quarter-final tie against Norway in Miami on Saturday evening.
The squad will fly to Florida on Friday to finalise their preparations for the highly anticipated knockout clash.
However, the national team will be without promising defender Jarell Quansah for the pivotal fixture.
The centre-back is serving a two-match ban after being sent off against Mexico, ruling him out until the final should his team progress that far.
Injury concerns mount for knockout stages
Further selection headaches remain for the manager, with major doubts surrounding the availability of Reece James, Marc Guehi and Declan Rice.
Chelsea captain James has been sidelined with a hamstring issue since the second group stage match, while Guehi missed training this week with a similar complaint.
Meanwhile, instrumental midfielder Rice is currently battling an illness ahead of the weekend.
A prospective victory against the Norwegians would set up a semi-final showdown with either Argentina or Switzerland.
