Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro has died at the age of 25 after collapsing on the pitch during a pre-season friendly in Portugal on Saturday morning.

The 25-year-old was representing Real Massama against Estrela da Amadora when he fell to the ground just 10 minutes into the contest at the Estadio das Seixas.

Medical staff from both teams immediately rushed onto the field to provide emergency assistance.

Portuguese sports outlet A Bola reported that a defibrillator was deployed during frantic attempts to resuscitate the central midfielder.

Healthcare professionals subsequently transported the Portuguese talent to a nearby hospital for further emergency treatment.

Despite the extensive efforts of all medical personnel involved, he was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival.

The match between the two Portuguese sides was immediately abandoned following the distressing scenes.

Estrela da Amadora promptly released an official statement to confirm the tragic news and express their profound sorrow.
