Former West Brom midfielder Quevin Castro dies aged 25 after pitch collapse
Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro has died at the age of 25 after collapsing on the pitch during a pre-season friendly in Portugal on Saturday morning.
The 25-year-old was representing Real Massama against Estrela da Amadora when he fell to the ground just 10 minutes into the contest at the Estadio das Seixas.
Medical staff from both teams immediately rushed onto the field to provide emergency assistance.
Portuguese sports outlet A Bola reported that a defibrillator was deployed during frantic attempts to resuscitate the central midfielder.
Estrela da Amadora issue heartfelt tribute
Healthcare professionals subsequently transported the Portuguese talent to a nearby hospital for further emergency treatment.
Despite the extensive efforts of all medical personnel involved, he was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival.
The match between the two Portuguese sides was immediately abandoned following the distressing scenes.
Estrela da Amadora promptly released an official statement to confirm the tragic news and express their profound sorrow.
“At this moment of profound sadness, Estrela da Amadora extends its most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Quevin Castro, as well as to the entire Real Massamá structure.”
“Our thoughts are with all those close to him. Rest in peace, Quevin.”

Prior to his move to Portugal, the dynamic playmaker spent time in English football, most notably joining West Bromwich Albion in 2021.
During his stint in the West Midlands, he was highly regarded as a promising development squad player before seeking regular first-team opportunities elsewhere.
