Jose Mourinho targets Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez for Real Madrid rebuild
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has made Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez his primary transfer target, though the Spanish giants may need to sell established players to fund the move.
The Argentine playmaker has reportedly spoken favourably about living in the Spanish capital, previously casting doubt on his long-term future in west London.
Fernandez joined the Blues for a British-record £106m following his standout performances at the last World Cup and remains a key figure at Stamford Bridge.
Midfield departures expected at the Bernabeu
To facilitate such a high-profile acquisition, the current La Liga champions must offload existing squad members to balance their finances.
Further midfield additions are currently on hold pending outgoings, with French international Eduardo Camavinga identified as a potential high-value departure.
While several English clubs are monitoring the former Rennes prodigy, his preference to remain in Spain could complicate any potential negotiations.
The situation surrounding holding midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is also under evaluation, with Manchester United among the Premier League sides tracking his availability.
Mourinho continues Premier League raid
Since returning for a second spell in charge, the renowned Portuguese tactician has heavily targeted the English top flight to reshape his squad.
Los Blancos have already completed a £51m deal for Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella, who has publicly encouraged his former team-mate to join him.
“He’s a great player and a friend of mine, and he congratulated me on the signing,” Cucurella told Spanish newspaper Marca.
“We were very happy at Chelsea, and to have the opportunity to both sign for Real Madrid in the same summer… I hope he’s lucky and becomes a Real Madrid player.”
The Spanish heavyweights have also secured free transfers for Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva following the expiration of their respective contracts at Liverpool and Manchester City.
Dutch international defender Denzel Dumfries is another confirmed arrival as the extensive Madrid overhaul gathers pace.
