Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal was forced off with a suspected hamstring injury immediately after scoring a penalty against Celta Vigo in LaLiga at the Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old won and converted a spot-kick to give his side the lead.

However, instead of celebrating, the Spain international immediately dropped to the turf and called for medical assistance.

Replays appeared to show the teenage sensation grabbing the back of his leg following the strike.

Medical emergency causes lengthy delay

After receiving treatment on the pitch, he managed to walk off but was unable to continue.

Roony Bardghji was brought on to replace the injured attacker shortly before half-time.

The match was also subjected to a halt of nearly 20 minutes following a medical emergency in the stands.

Play eventually resumed once the affected supporter had been safely evacuated from the stadium.

Title race implications for leaders

Losing their talisman for any significant period would be a severe blow to the Catalan club.

They currently sit six points clear of title rivals Real Madrid at the top of the table.

A victory over Celta would extend that advantage to nine points with only six matches remaining.

The two heavyweights are also scheduled to face each other in the second Clásico of the season on 10 May.

A stellar campaign interrupted

The young winger has previously managed a pubalgia issue but has largely avoided serious injury this term.

He has featured in 45 matches across all competitions during a remarkable individual campaign.

Wednesday’s opening goal took his overall scoring tally to 24, alongside 17 assists.
