Liverpool agree £34.6m deal for Osasuna winger Munoz ahead of Newcastle
Liverpool have triggered the £34.6m release clause of Osasuna winger Munoz to secure the first signing of the Andoni Iraola era ahead of Newcastle United.
Club doctors have flown to Spain’s World Cup training base in Atlanta to conduct medical examinations on the 22-year-old.
Newcastle were initially the first Premier League side to move for the highly-rated forward, but the Anfield outfit have successfully hijacked the transfer.
Attacking reinforcements required
The arrival of the Spanish international checks a crucial box for a squad in urgent need of offensive additions.
Iraola’s side required reinforcements following the departure of club legend Mohamed Salah and a serious Achilles injury to Hugo Ekitike.
That devastating setback is expected to rule the French striker out for approximately half of the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.
Profitable deal for Spanish sides
A product of both the Real Madrid and Barcelona youth academies, the lightning-fast attacker has enjoyed a rapid rise since joining Osasuna in the summer of 2025.
He recorded eight goal involvements in 34 La Liga appearances, thriving in a direct, attacking system that mirrors the style Iraola intends to implement on Merseyside.
The Pamplona-based club stand to make a considerable profit on a player they purchased for just £4.3m barely a year ago.
However, Real Madrid retain a 50% sell-on clause from his previous transfer and will subsequently receive a £17.2m windfall.
World Cup duties
The newly-signed Reds winger is currently representing his nation at the World Cup, having earned two senior caps prior to Luis de la Fuente’s squad selection.
He was an unused substitute during his country’s opening group-stage fixture, which ended in a goalless draw against Cape Verde.
