Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones is a major doubt for Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain after sustaining a groin injury during their 2-0 victory over Fulham.

The academy graduate was forced off late in the first half at Anfield and replaced by Dutch international Ryan Gravenberch.

Head coach Arne Slot confirmed the issue following the match, admitting he does not expect the player to recover in time to face the French champions.

The Reds face a daunting task as they look to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg in Paris.

Losing another key player compounds a frustrating campaign on the medical front for the six-time European champions.

The Merseyside club have already endured extended periods without several crucial figures, including Alexander Isak, Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley.

Slot clarified the nature of the latest setback during his post-match press conference.

“He felt a little bit in his groin. It wasn’t a moment, he felt it already for a few minutes,” Slot explained.
“Let’s hope for the best, but I would be surprised if he is available for Tuesday.”

Manager remains defiant ahead of European test

Despite the growing casualty ward, the mood in the camp remains optimistic after snapping a three-match losing streak.

Goals from Rio Ngumoha and Mohamed Salah secured the vital win against Marco Silva’s side, providing a much-needed confidence boost.

The Dutch manager addressed his squad’s recurring setbacks with a sense of weary acceptance.

“I would almost say ‘welcome to our season’. Every time after we win, or something good happens, there is always an injury following it up, but it is a win and that is what we should be really happy about,” he added.

Looking ahead to the European showdown, the Liverpool boss issued a rallying cry to the home support.

“The fans will be behind us and the players will give everything they have to turn things around. I can tell you we are up for it, we’re ready for it, and Anfield will be ready for it.”
