Liverpool are tracking Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup following his impressive World Cup performances for Norway.

The Merseyside club are reportedly among several top European sides monitoring the 22-year-old’s rapid development.

Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Como are also keeping close tabs on the highly-rated attacker.

Mourinho praises remarkable transformation

Former manager Jose Mourinho recently delivered a glowing assessment of the Norwegian’s progress in Lisbon.

The legendary Portuguese coach had initially criticised the young forward’s lack of intensity and defensive work rate earlier in the campaign.

However, by the end of the season, the experienced tactician completely altered his verdict on the dynamic winger.

“Comparing the Schjelderup of months ago with the Schjelderup of today is impossible.”
“Neither from a physical point of view, nor from a tactical point of view, nor from a mental point of view, there’s nothing comparable.”
“I’d say that this kid, if he continues to develop in this way, will surely be a real talent and I’d say a great, great, great talent.” Jose Mourinho

Previous Anfield rejection

This is not the first time the Premier League giants have pursued the talented Scandinavian.

The highly sought-after prospect previously rejected a move to Anfield in 2020 at the age of 16.

He opted instead to sign for Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland to prioritise immediate first-team football.

Bayern Munich and Juventus also hosted the teenager on trial before he finalised his decision to move to Denmark.

Breakthrough season in Portugal

The versatile forward eventually established himself as a regular starter in the Liga Portugal after the turn of the year.

He made 20 league starts out of a possible 34, registering a respectable return of seven goals and six assists.

Across all competitions, the former Nordsjaelland star concluded the campaign with 43 appearances under his belt.
