Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike faces nine months out with Achilles injury
Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike has begun a lengthy rehabilitation period after rupturing his Achilles tendon, an injury that will sideline him for up to nine months.
The 23-year-old collapsed on the pitch during a 2-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield before being carried off on a stretcher.
Manager Arne Slot subsequently confirmed that his attacker faces an extended spell away from football.
Emotional message and World Cup heartbreak
Following successful surgery, the French international shared an emotional update on Instagram indicating a temporary break from social media.
His post featured a series of images, including photographs showing him in a hospital wheelchair and wearing a protective boot.
He also shared an artificially generated image depicting him in tears while reaching for a shattered World Cup trophy.
This poignant inclusion highlights the reality that the former PSG player will miss the upcoming summer tournament in North America.
Mac Miller tribute and Liverpool support
To conclude his message, the young forward uploaded a video clip of the late American rapper Mac Miller.
“Life is good though,” the musician states in the footage.
“I want y’all to see that life is great… Love is good, spread love. I’m out of here, I’ll be back soon.”
Liverpool were quick to publicly support their player through official channels as he begins his long road to recovery.
“We’re with you all the way, Hugo,” the club commented on his post.
Attacking headache for Slot
The Merseyside club must now navigate the rest of the campaign without their talisman, starting with a home fixture against Crystal Palace on Saturday, 25 April.
Slot may be forced to rely heavily on Alexander Isak to lead the forward line in the coming weeks.
However, the Swedish international has only recently returned to full fitness following a leg fracture sustained last December.
