Liverpool are interested in signing Burnley defender Maxime Esteve as they prepare for a summer rebuild under incoming manager Andoni Iraola.

Significant changes are already underway at Anfield following the unexpected departure of head coach Arne Slot.

The Reds are stepping into a new era, with established stars Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate all confirming their exits.

Identifying a left-sided centre-back to replace the departing Konate has become a priority for the Merseyside club’s recruitment team.

Competition for the French defender

The 24-year-old has established himself as a key figure at Turf Moor, making exactly 100 appearances for the Clarets.

However, Burnley’s recent relegation from the Premier League has left them resigned to losing the Montpellier-born player, despite him signing a long-term contract last year.

Chelsea and Crystal Palace are also closely monitoring the former France youth international’s situation.

Any formal bid from Anfield will depend on internal discussions between the club hierarchy and Iraola once the Spaniard officially takes charge.

Top-flight experience and an unwanted record

Esteve originally joined Burnley on a loan deal in the 2024 winter transfer window before making the move permanent.

The defender has accumulated over 160 professional appearances, including 50 outings in England’s top flight.

He recently equalled an unwanted Premier League record by scoring two own goals in a single match during a clash with Manchester City.

Meanwhile, the Championship-bound Clarets are already preparing for his potential departure by exploring a move for free agent Dael Fry.
