Manchester United keep Marcus Rashford following Barcelona loan expiry
Marcus Rashford will be reintegrated into the Manchester United squad this summer after Barcelona declined to make the England forward’s loan move permanent.
The 28-year-old spent last season at the Nou Camp, scoring 14 goals in 49 appearances for the Catalan giants.
However, the La Liga outfit opted against triggering a €30m buy option to secure his services permanently.
Manager Hansi Flick has instead reshaped his frontline by signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United and pursuing Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.
Carrick offers Old Trafford lifeline
The academy product was frozen out by former manager Ruben Amorim last summer and banished to the club’s reserves.
Amorim was dismissed in January, with Michael Carrick initially taking charge as caretaker before securing the permanent managerial position.
Reports indicate the new boss is eager to work with the versatile attacker ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
A £40m release clause in his current contract, which excluded rivals Liverpool and Manchester City from bidding, officially expired earlier this week.
World Cup duties delay pre-season return
The Red Devils kick off their pre-season schedule today with a friendly against Wrexham in Helsinki, Finland.
The United forward will not be present in Scandinavia due to his ongoing international commitments.
He is currently preparing to face France in the World Cup third-place play-off this evening in Miami, Florida.
