Manchester United set £30m asking price for AC Milan target Manuel Ugarte
Manchester United are demanding a fee of around £30m from AC Milan to sell out-of-favour midfielder Manuel Ugarte this summer.
The Italian giants are weighing up a deal to reunite the Uruguayan international with their newly appointed head coach Ruben Amorim.
Ugarte was recently informed by Michael Carrick that he does not feature in the club’s long-term plans following a difficult two-year spell in England.
The Premier League side are desperate to offload the 25-year-old and recoup a significant portion of the £42m they paid Paris St-Germain in 2024.
Amorim seeks reunion after Old Trafford struggles
Agent Jorge Mendes has already opened talks with the Serie A club after his client made it clear he wishes to leave Manchester.
Milan chief executive Giorgio Furlani remains reluctant to meet the full asking price, though further negotiations are expected to reach a compromise.
Amorim previously managed the combative midfielder during a highly successful period at Sporting, before both endured a miserable stint together in the Premier League.
Speaking shortly before his dismissal as United manager, Amorim acknowledged the player’s difficulties in adapting to English football.
“You can sense a lot of very good players come here, and sometimes they struggle,” Amorim said.
“It is a different world; he needs to adapt, and he needs to improve, especially in training.”
Midfield overhaul restricts first-team opportunities
The former Parisian has started just 30 league fixtures across two seasons, falling sharply down the pecking order behind Kobbie Mainoo.
United’s recent acquisition of Brazilian international Ederson from Atalanta has further restricted opportunities in the middle of the pitch.
The English club are also preparing an imminent bid for West Ham United playmaker Mateus Fernandes.
Ugarte is currently on international duty at the 2026 World Cup, where a string of positive performances could help accelerate a transfer.
The midfielder started Uruguay’s opening fixture against Saudi Arabia, with crucial group stage matches against Cape Verde and Spain looming.
