Manchester United have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Colombian midfielder Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF to join their academy setup.

The South American prospect officially completed his move to England last month upon turning 18.

Thursday’s announcement formally introduces the highly-rated teenager, who represents Colombia at Under-18 level, into the youth ranks at Carrington.

Initial reports of an agreement surfaced late last year after the attacking talent visited the club’s training facilities in December.

Focus on adaptation and language

Speaking to ESPN Colombia, the former Categoria Primera A player acknowledged the challenge ahead but remained confident in his natural abilities.

I know my strengths are my physicality and my technique. I have those qualities and, with the gift God gave me, I don’t think it will be too difficult, but everything is about adapting.

The young playmaker also emphasised the importance of overcoming the language barrier to accelerate his integration into English football.

I expect to learn a lot of English. When I was there, I realised just how important it is.
I want to arrive and learn as quickly as possible. That’s what’s required so I can show my level and everything I’m capable of.

Senior midfield recruitment continues

While Orozco represents a long-term investment for the youth system, the Red Devils remain active in rebuilding their senior engine room.

Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have been brought in from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively as part of a wider squad overhaul.

Further additions to the senior midfield could still materialise before the transfer deadline closes.
