Mohamed Salah misses Manchester United clash due to muscle injury
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will miss Sunday’s Premier League trip to Manchester United after sustaining a muscle injury against Crystal Palace.
The Egyptian international picked up the issue during a 3-1 victory over the Eagles last week.
Initial fears suggested the prolific winger may have already played his final game for the Merseyside club.
However, medical staff expect the veteran attacker to feature again before the season concludes.
His upcoming absence at Old Trafford will be keenly felt by the visitors.
A formidable record against United
The legendary goalscorer has consistently tormented Liverpool’s bitter north-west rivals since arriving at Anfield in 2017.
He holds the competition record for the most league goals against Manchester United, finding the net 13 times.
Seven of those strikes have come at Old Trafford, an unmatched tally in English top-flight history.
Elliott could feature in Leipzig swap deal
Away from the pitch, former manager Jurgen Klopp could inadvertently help resolve one of his biggest Anfield regrets.
The German coach previously admitted he should have awarded more playing time to midfielder Harvey Elliott during his final campaign.
“If I regret one thing a little bit it’s that Harvey didn’t play often enough, maybe,” Klopp stated before his departure.
“In a very important and intense period in January when we had a lot of injuries, he played really good. Then everybody came back and he had a few minutes here and there and didn’t start any more.”
Klopp now serves as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, overseeing recruitment strategies for clubs including RB Leipzig.
Reports suggest Liverpool are heavily interested in acquiring Leipzig’s highly-rated standout Yan Diomande.
The Bundesliga side reportedly value the 19-year-old prospect at approximately £86m.
To facilitate the blockbuster transfer, Liverpool could offer Elliott to Leipzig as a lucrative makeweight.
Such a move could finally guarantee the English midfielder the regular starting role his former manager always envisioned for him.
