Newcastle reject Manchester United enquiry for defender Lewis Hall

Newcastle United have informed Manchester United that Lewis Hall is not for sale after rejecting an initial summer enquiry for the left-back.

The Old Trafford club have long admired the 21-year-old England international as they look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new season.

However, the Magpies rebuffed a formal approach two weeks ago and remain determined to keep hold of a player who still has three years remaining on his current contract.

Carrick searching for Shaw successor

Finding a reliable left-sided defender has become a pressing issue for Manchester United manager Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils are heading into the upcoming campaign with Luke Shaw as their only senior option in that position following the recent departure of Tyrell Malacia on a free transfer.

With Shaw now entering the final twelve months of his deal, the Manchester club view the young Newcastle defender as an ideal long-term replacement.
