Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly beaten Arsenal to the signing of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez in a major summer transfer blow for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta had identified the Argentine international as a primary target to bolster his attacking options for next season.

However, the French champions have outmanoeuvred their English rivals to secure the highly-rated forward.

PSG win race for coveted forward

Reports in Spain suggest the former Manchester City attacker has already agreed terms with Luis Enrique’s side.

Spanish analyst Jose Antonio Martin Otin confirmed the development to Cadena COPE.

“He’s a player who’s already been transferred to PSG.”

Journalist Roberto Gomez also told Radio Marca that the World Cup winner’s preferred destination was the French capital, ruling out a switch to Barcelona due to financial constraints.

Arsenal forced to seek alternatives

The north London club previously had a nine-figure bid rejected for the prolific frontman.

Arteta must now look elsewhere to reinforce a forward line that could soon see both Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli depart the Emirates Stadium.

Despite closing in on a historic Premier League and Champions League double, the Gunners’ current striking options of Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres have lacked consistent ruthlessness in front of goal.

The transfer setback adds further tension as the two clubs prepare to face each other in the upcoming Champions League final.

Timber fitness concern

In a separate blow ahead of that European showpiece, Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has provided a concerning update on Jurrien Timber.

The versatile defender is currently facing a significant battle to prove his fitness before the final against the Parisian giants.
