Paris St-Germain sign defender Lucas Digne from Aston Villa for £8.5m
France international Lucas Digne has completed a transfer from Aston Villa to European champions Paris St-Germain after the French club activated his £8.5m release clause.
The 33-year-old left-back has signed a three-year contract at the Parc des Princes.
His arrival will provide direct competition for established first-choice defender Nuno Mendes.
Return to the French capital
The experienced full-back initially spent three years with the Ligue 1 giants at the very start of his professional career.
He made 30 appearances during that initial spell before eventually departing for Barcelona in 2016.
“I am very honoured to be returning to Paris St-Germain following the wonderful experience I had here more than ten years ago,” said the returning defender.
“I am particularly impressed by how the club has developed over the years.”
Villa rebuild continues after historic season
The former Everton man ends an eight-year stint in English football to join a dominant side that has won the Champions League twice in succession.
The Parisian outfit recently secured their latest European crown by defeating Arsenal on penalties in the 2026 final.
Prior to his departure, the defender was an integral part of the Villa team that captured the Europa League last season.
That continental triumph marked the Midlands club’s first piece of major silverware since 1996.
He represents the third significant senior exit from Villa Park this term, following Morgan Rogers’ move to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans’ switch to Manchester United.
