Teenage Swedish forward Felicia Schroeder has joined Real Madrid from BK Hacken in what her former club claims is the most expensive transfer in women’s football history.

The 19-year-old international has committed to a four-year contract with the Spanish heavyweights.

Her monumental move follows a highly prolific spell in Sweden, where the dynamic attacker registered an impressive 91 goals in 128 appearances.

Shattering the global transfer record

A Hacken spokesperson confirmed to Reuters that the undisclosed fee surpasses the existing global benchmark.

Last summer, the Orlando Pride set the previous world record by acquiring Mexico winger Lizbeth Ovalle from Tigres UANL for a reported $1.5m (£1.1m).

It’s based on this price tag being higher than the previous record sum of $1.5m, a record sum that was confirmed at the time by the Orlando Pride.

However, what exactly this price tag is is not something we are making public.

Closing the gap in Spain

This coveted signing represents a major statement of intent from the capital club as they look to challenge at the summit of Liga F.

Real Madrid finished second in the Spanish top flight last season, ending the campaign a distant 15 points behind dominant champions Barcelona.

They will be hoping their new recruit can instantly translate her phenomenal goalscoring form into a fierce title challenge.

Announcing the arrival, the Madrid club described the teenager as the standout star of the tournament following her exceptional performances at the recent Women’s Europa Cup.
