Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a summer move for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo as manager Roberto De Zerbi looks to bolster his attacking options.

Spurs have already secured three defensive signings but are now shifting their focus further up the pitch.

The north London club are determined to make a statement addition for their Italian head coach.

Spurs intensify attacking recruitment

Their pursuit of the Netherlands international follows a rejected £75m bid for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Tottenham also remain in active discussions regarding West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Manchester City winger Savinho.

However, securing the 27-year-old Dutch forward will require significant negotiation with his current employers.

World Cup form inflates value

The versatile attacker is currently impressing at the 2026 World Cup in North America.

He delivered a standout performance in the Netherlands’ recent 5-1 group stage victory over Sweden.

The former PSV Eindhoven star scored twice and provided an assist during that comprehensive win.

Such impressive displays on the international stage are likely to further increase his transfer valuation.

Liverpool hold strong negotiating position

His future on Merseyside remains uncertain despite an almost ever-present role under Arne Slot last season.

The forward made 32 starts in the Premier League, contributing seven goals and five assists.

He proved highly durable for the club last term, missing just two matches across the campaign due to injury.

Liverpool retain total control over the player’s immediate future following a recent contract extension.

The lucrative agreement is reportedly worth £250,000-a-week and runs for another four years.

Decision expected after tournament

The Reds will aim to secure a substantial profit on the initial fee they paid in January 2023.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed genuine interest from Tottenham but expects a delayed timeline.

“There is interest from Tottenham, there are clubs trying to understand if there is a way to strike a deal for Cody Gakpo this summer but as yet Liverpool are yet to give a green light to the exit,” said Romano.
“This is going to be a moment where Liverpool have to make a decision, I don’t think it’s going to be during the World Cup.”

It appears unlikely that any formal agreement will be reached before the conclusion of the international tournament.
