Jack Draper will return from a two-month injury absence at next week’s Eastbourne Open, marking his first competitive appearance alongside new coach Andy Murray.

The 24-year-old has been sidelined since mid-April after retiring with a knee problem against Tomas Etcheverry in Barcelona.

That setback forced him out of the French Open, while a subsequent shoulder issue delayed his comeback and raised fears over his Wimbledon participation.

Murray partnership begins on grass

The British hopeful is now fully recovered to take his place in the warm-up event draw.

He announced earlier this year that the two-time Wimbledon champion would guide him throughout the demanding grass-court season.

Both men will be hoping these recent physical setbacks are firmly behind the world number 113.

Building trust after lengthy lay-offs

He has managed to play just 10 competitive matches since last year’s Wimbledon championships.

A severe bone bruise in his racket arm previously sidelined the left-hander for eight months.

He competed in only five events upon returning earlier this year before being forced off the court once again.

Murray impressed by rising star

Speaking to reporters this week, his legendary new coach expressed strong confidence in his physical progress.

“In the sessions I’ve done with him, I’ve been more impressed probably than what I expected. And I thought he was bloody good before I started helping him,” Murray said.

“Obviously he’s had lots of issues the last year with various injuries, but I feel like he’s starting to come out the other side of that now.”

“The next step is getting on the match court, getting a consistent run of tournaments under him and building trust again in his body.”

Raducanu opts for Wimbledon preparation

Elsewhere in British tennis, Emma Raducanu has chosen not to accept a wild card for the Eastbourne event.

The former Grand Slam champion withdrew from the Nottingham tournament earlier this week.

She has instead elected to focus her practice sessions at Wimbledon following her recent run to the final at Queen’s.
