Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke has died at the age of 29, the NBA franchise and his agency have confirmed.
A cause of death for the former first-round draft pick, whose passing was announced on Tuesday, has not yet been disclosed.
‘An outstanding teammate’
The Western Conference team released a statement expressing their heartbreak over the tragic and sudden loss.
“Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten,” the team said.
His representatives at Priority Sports also paid tribute, stating that it was impossible to put into words how much the professional would be missed.
A dedicated career in Memphis
Selected in the first round of the 2019 draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder, the athletic big man was traded to Tennessee just two weeks later.
The energetic frontcourt player went on to spend his entire seven-year professional career competing for the Grizzlies.
During his tenure, he established himself as a highly respected presence on and off the court for the Memphis-based organisation.
