Former United States international Keith Tkachuk has been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame, receiving the honour just hours after his sons Matthew and Brady became NHL teammates at the Florida Panthers.

The 52-year-old was announced as part of the newest induction class on Monday after waiting more than 15 years since the conclusion of his playing career.

Affectionately nicknamed “Walt”, the patriarch of one of ice hockey’s most prominent families finally takes his place among the sport’s elite.

His selection caps off an extraordinary 24 hours for the family, coming immediately after Brady was dealt from the Ottawa Senators to join his older sibling in Sunrise.

Stellar induction class joins Tkachuk

The legendary power forward will not be entering the prestigious Toronto institution alone.

Former Boston Bruins centre Patrice Bergeron, who lifted the Stanley Cup in 2011, highlights the remainder of the player category.

A pair of exceptional goaltenders will also be honoured, with Montreal Canadiens icon Carey Price and Nashville Predators great Pekka Rinne earning their places.

Pioneers and executives recognised

Beyond the modern NHL stars, the selection committee has chosen to recognise crucial figures who helped shape the wider game.

United States women’s ice hockey pioneer Cindy Curley will be enshrined following her foundational contributions to the international sport.

They will be joined by veteran executive Brian Burke, who brings decades of influential management experience to November’s induction ceremony.

During his prime, the Massachusetts-born forward amassed an incredible 538 goals and 1,065 points across 1,201 regular-season contests, establishing himself as one of the premier physical attackers of his generation.
