Arsenal are set to receive a significant financial windfall after it emerged they hold a 17.5% sell-on clause for former striker Folarin Balogun, who Monaco currently value at £43m.

The 24-year-old left north London in the summer of 2023 for a reported £34.2m fee without a buy-back option included in the deal.

However, the Gunners successfully negotiated a lucrative sell-on percentage which will be activated if the French Ligue 1 side decide to cash in on the forward.

World Cup exploits attract suitors

The United States international is currently leading the line for the World Cup co-hosts and has attracted widespread global attention.

He recently netted twice in a 4-1 victory over Paraguay, becoming only the second American in history to score a brace in a World Cup fixture.

This impressive international form follows a highly productive domestic campaign where the prolific attacker registered 19 goals in 43 appearances for Monaco last season.

Arteta ‘not behind’ Arsenal exit

The Brooklyn-born forward switched his international allegiance from England to the USA shortly before securing his permanent transfer away from the Emirates Stadium.

He recently shed light on his departure from the Premier League club, suggesting manager Mikel Arteta was not the driving force behind the sale.

“He said that he would try to get me involved as best as he could, but of course he also told me that the people higher up were making decisions on me,” Balogun told ESPN.
“So the conversations between me and him were good, but it was more about the club, what they wanted to do.”

A return to his boyhood club is considered highly unlikely, but his impending transfer could provide a timely injection of funds for Arsenal’s own summer recruitment plans.
