Bayern Munich close on £48m Nathaniel Brown deal to beat Manchester United
Bayern Munich are on the verge of completing a £48m deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown, beating Manchester United to the highly-rated Germany international.
The 23-year-old full-back has verbally agreed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga champions following positive talks with head coach Vincent Kompany.
United had heavily scouted the sought-after defender as they look to reinforce their options on the left flank.
However, the Bavarian giants have moved decisively to secure a player who has registered 12 goal contributions for club and country this season.
Rudiger praises international teammate
Brown is currently representing his country at the World Cup alongside international colleague Antonio Rudiger.
The former Chelsea centre-back has been hugely impressed by his younger compatriot’s recent performances on the global stage.
“I don’t need to say much about him, I’m positively surprised,” Rudiger said.
“He is a very calm character off the pitch, but on the pitch, he’s a monster.”
The Real Madrid defender highlighted a specific friendly match in March where the Frankfurt sensation successfully neutralised Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo during a 2-1 victory over Ghana.
United turn focus to Premier League alternatives
With the coveted prospect heading to Munich, the Old Trafford hierarchy must now explore other avenues to solve their defensive shortages.
The potential redeployment of Patrick Dorgu as a winger next season would leave the frequently-sidelined Luke Shaw as the only recognised left-back available to the club.
Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall has emerged as a primary alternative target for the Red Devils.
Securing the English defender may prove difficult following Newcastle’s lucrative sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona.
The Magpies are under no immediate financial pressure to authorise further high-profile departures during the current transfer window.
