Brazilian forward Rodrygo has been informed he is free to leave Real Madrid this summer following the managerial appointment of Jose Mourinho.

The attacker saw his influence wane at the Bernabeu last season, struggling to secure regular minutes under previous boss Xabi Alonso.

Now, with a new regime in charge, the Spanish heavyweights will not stand in the player’s way should he wish to pursue a new challenge.

Arsenal maintain long-standing interest

The Gunners harboured genuine interest in the versatile forward during last year’s summer window.

Mikel Arteta was reportedly drawn to his ability to operate anywhere across the front line, though an £80m valuation ultimately prevented a formal bid.

Despite recently adding Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze to their wide ranks, the north London outfit remain intent on bolstering their attacking depth.

Competition for attacking places

The South American international registered a disappointing return of just three goals in 27 appearances last term.

That tally marks a sharp decline from the prolific form he displayed three years ago, when he found the net 19 times.

Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr remain the undisputed primary weapons in the Spanish capital, while Brahim Diaz also surpassed the former Santos star in the pecking order.

Reports in Spain suggest the winger remains determined to fight for his place, though his stance could shift if first-team opportunities remain severely limited.

Mourinho’s sweeping changes

The newly appointed Portuguese manager has wasted no time remodelling his squad for his second stint in Madrid.

He has already turned to the English top flight for reinforcements, securing Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for £51m.

Fellow playmaker Bernardo Silva has also arrived at the Bernabeu on a free transfer following his departure from Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Arsenal may ultimately prioritise a central striker, with Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez heavily linked with a lucrative return to the Premier League.
